Day 1 USA - Riga
Depart from the US on Finnair or SAS on the overnight flight to Riga.
Day 2 Riga
On arriving to Riga, you'll be met at the airport and then transferred to your hotel.
Day 3 Riga
We'll start with a tour of Riga which will include the following: Dome Cathedral, which boasts one of the world's largest pipe organs; St. Peter's Cathedral with magnificent views of the city from its steeple. We'll also visit Freedom Monument, erected in 1935 to celebrate Latvia's independence. From there, we will visit the Salaspils Memorial, the largest concentration camp built by the Nazis in Latvian territory. (B)
Day 4 Sigulda
After breakfast, we'll leave for Sigulda, located some 37 miles from Riga. Sigulda is surrounded by the Gauja National Park and Nature Preserve, a mountainous region that has long been cherished as Latvia's most beautiful ancient oak forests. The cave-linked banks of the Gauja river, medieval castles, and wild flowers seldom found anywhere else in Europe, combine to make Sigulda a favorite resort of foreign guests and Latvians alike. Among the man-made wonders of this region, we'll visit Turaida and Sigulda Castles. Return to Riga in the evening. (B)
Day 5 Jurmala
Stretching over some 15 miles of coastline Jurmala is an internationally celebrated spa and a popular destination for day outings. People from all over the world come to enjoy Jurmala's clean air, temperate climate, curative mineral springs and mud baths, all in the setting of a virgin pine forest. Return to Riga in the afternoon. (B)
Day 6 Rundale
We'll visit today Rundale Palace, one of the masterpieces of the 18th-century baroque. The palace's architect, F B Rastrelli, also designed the Winter Palace in St Petersburg. We'll return to Riga in the evening. (B)
Day7 Riga
A day for yourselves. (B)
Day 8 Riga-USA
Transfer to the airport for the flight home. (B)
